~Happy Friday!~

LOL! Run away!

Happy Friday everyone!
Got any big plans for the weekend? I don't really...but usually thats when my creative juices start flowin. Ya know? -- when theres no pressure! lol

Weeeeelll, I've been tagged. Yup. I'm a little worried..just a little...I don't like to talk about myself and I'm not keen on sharing "secrets" with strangers. STRANGER DANGER lol

However...I was tagged by a wonderful woman and I appreciate her so much, so this is for you dear Sharon of Mana Moon Studios. MWHahah!! Heres the scoop: I'm supposed to share six secrets about myself and then "tag" five others {which unfortunately probably won't happen, seeing as how I don't have five people to tag because they've already been tagged. LOL} Anyway here we go:
Six Secrets About Me

1. I grew up in a conservative Christian home and both of my parents are ministers for The Salvation Army. Most folks think of the thrift stores or the bell ringers at Christmas, but its much more than that. There are Salvation Army churches all over the world and even a college where folks can train to be ministers. It was an interesting lifestyle to say the least, but I don't regret one minute of my childhood, even though I was very sheltered.

2. I almost became a mortician. As my husband can give witness to, I have an unusually strong stomach and a strange and demented fascination with the macabre. There are many choices to make in life and the choice I made led me away from that desire instead of towards it. I have no regrets though...just a tiny twinge of longing to do that sort of work. I believe it takes a certain type of person to be able to handle that kind of thing, and I KNOW I could do it. Dr. G? Ya need any help? LOL

3. I have a true passion for a certain type of music. My favorites include: Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Helen Ward, Bing Crosby, the Andrew Sisters, Jo Stafford, Danny Kaye, Patty Paige, and a young Wayne Newton. Older Wayne Newton is sorta creepy to me LOL, but when he was 16 yrs old DAY-UM, that boy could sing! Of course there are many others. Too many to name. But most of the time, one of their CDs is playing in my car. I rarely listen to the radio anymore. All that being said, its not the only music I listen to. Right now in my car, I have Queen playing. I also love Scottish folk music, bluegrass, jazz and classic rock. There are just too many genres to list. Just know that I adore music and wouldn't be able to survive without it.

4. I don't want children. Don't judge me. LOL My thoughts on this subject are such that I really shouldn't post them here...but I will say that the world is WAY over populated....Children are a HUGE responsibility. Being a mother is a 100% selfless full time job and in my opinion the hardest job in the world. Unfortunately, there are many women out there just poppin 'em out, who quite frankly, have NO business being a mother. But it happens. Don't get me wrong, I love kids. I love my nephews more than I can say. Kids are hilarious!! But, I love my dogs. They don't sass or talk back! LOL If my mind ever changes, I'll adopt. There are many children out there who need a good loving home and I know I could provide that. But as of right now, I'm just enjoying my dogs and my husband and our life together.

5. I met my husband on a blind date. No kidding. I never thought I'd go on a blind date. My parents met on a blind date too, and that story is hilarious, but I never thought it would or could happen to me. I was in a verbally abusive relationship and he had just broken up with someone 3 months prior, so both of us were in a position to say YES. My friend from college set us up...and knew my hubby because her hubby worked with him. It was a spur of the moment decision that changed our lives. On a side note...I knew beforehand what he looked like having seen a picture, but he had NO CLUE what I looked like. It was fun! I was so nervous, I had to have a drink to loosen up! LOL We met in May, got engaged in November and were married a year after that. Been together 8 years now. He's my knight in shining armor! :o)

6. I have the biggest soft spot for animals....of all kinds. To me, they're the epitome of innocence. There is no evil in nature. A tiger isn't evil when he chases down a gazelle. He needs to eat, to feed his family. Its all a part of the circle of life. Every time...every single time I see an animal on the side of the road, theres a little pang in my heart. WE have done this to them through suburban sprawl. Their homes and natural habitats have been destroyed because of us and for this I am genuinely sad for the little possum who couldn't quite make it across the street.

WOW WOW WOW. This took much longer than I had anticipated. And I apologize for the length. But here it is. All in black and white. Now you know more about me. Ruh Roh!
Now I need to think of someone I could tag who hasn't been already. I'll get back to ya on that one. :o)

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Love and Peace,
~Angie~

That was an insightful read! Thanks for sharing your "secrets". I do have to laugh about your comment about motherhood being selfless all the time- I'm sitting here with nathan and wesley asking for snacks and i'm totally ignoring them so I can read your post. =) hee..hee..

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP! Beautifully done, my friend! Wow...a mortician? I can see you doing that! I love your views on having children...this is why I have only two and had them when I was still young. The world was already going crazy and I knew I would neve be able to afford three. I'm going to step up on a soap box for one moment....a big part of the over population is caused by the illegal immigrants in this country. The more kids they have in the US the more benefits OUR coutnry gives them!! It's bullshit!! Ok, stepping down now! Damn, I should have put this as one of my six secrets!!

I also love your passion for animals. If I had a huge piece of land I would rescue all the stray animals, take them in, make them healthy and adopt them to good homes. Wanna start a biz together? LOL!!!!

Angie Kelly Designs said...

Oh yes! Please!! Lets start a rescue biz OMG - what a great idea!! I have always wanted to huge piece of land and rescue all the stray dogs I could find. LOL

you're so awesome!

OMG!! Angie, I loved your post and learning more about you, thank you SO much!!

Your childhood had to be fascinating with the contrast between how you grew up and the world you live in now. I'm sure it's given you some amazing perspectives on life which is one the many reasons I LOVE visiting your blog each day!!

Never would have guessed the mortician thing but that's pretty damn cool! I'm glad for now you've chosen the path of a jewelry artist though as we need all the eye candy we can get in this world. ;-)

I feel your pain and empathy when it comes to animals and I've never heard my own thoughts put more clearly than how you described that WE are the ones to blame not them! We're the infestation that's sprawled out into their territory. I love that my husband will stop on the side of the road to help a turtle crossing it to get to a safer place. :)

I love the oldies and listen to them all the time. Not many of us I think but you've got my heart with your music girl!!

Now oddly enough, even though I'm a mom and my kids have totally changed my life for the better, I agree with you about children & "some" parents. I honestly never wanted children until I had them, really dead set against them back then, but it turns out life had a different plan for me and I've never looked back. I owe who I am to them and I'm immensely thankful for that but I sincerely respect your feelings about having your own.

So thank you so much for your posting, I knew I was safe in your hands and WOW am I looking forward to getting back to business as usual tomorrow! :)

I will be your neighbor with the acreage. I thought I was the only one that cried about dead animals on the side of the road. The day they started bulldozing the forest next to my sub, was such a sad day... I used to watch the deer at the water's edge... we walked that forest for years, in the rain, in the snow, in the heat... my dogs and I loved that forest. Towards the end of the destruction, I witnessed something, that I doubt I will ever see again... it was a pitch black night, with a full white moon... and we were in the woods (under construction, but some trees still standing) - and a "flock" of doves rose above us... and flew against the moon... now I had never seen doves in this woods... never saw them again or after, there were quite a few doves... they were cooing... or whatever it is that doves do, in my heart I felt their sorrow and their good bye... On the children note, it is interesting to read that your thoughts and mine align, not about the selfless part, that is true having raised a daughter alone - but the part about over population. In our city alone, at the library there is a monthly booklet printed out, it is on average about 2" thick, it is a book on all the children in our city that need a home. These are children that have no homes, for whatever reason... abuse, neglect, parents dead, parents in prison... My daughter and I used to look threw these books... we visited the library a LOT, and each child had their own page, and each was dressed in their Sunday Best... their faces had smiles... but their eyes were haunted. As they got older, they knew they would never find their forever home. It so saddens me... I can not bear it. Our society creates new life (dogs, cats, children) etc. without regard for the existing life that is here, already - waiting to be loved, looking for a home... the animals... the children... well, I could go on... LOL but, Angie, you know our hearts are aligned. My daughter was raised to be aware of others, and she too, will adopt, when the time is right for her. xoxoxo Yours forever, Sab

Um, about that "Josh" post, yeah, he's mine... sorry! He's a real darling and saw the anguish his mom went through today so he's been traveling around to my blogger buddies' leaving comments. (just picture the sheepish mom at the mall when their child has said something embarrassing). His heart's in the right place though and I love him.
